Gajapati: The healthcare services at the Adaba Primary Health Centre in the district are in shambles. Due to absence of doctors at the hospital for long period, patients have to depend upon a pharmacist for treatment.
Locals alleged despite repeated pleas, the district administration has failed to address the issue leading to discontentment among the locals.
They stated patients visiting the hospital are not getting Niramaya medicines provided by the government free of cost and basic health care facilities at the health centre.
"Since last three days, I am suffering from fever. The pharmacist wrote the prescription as the doctors in the hospital are absent," rued a patient.
In his reaction, Pharmacist U. Adi Narayan said, “I provide the preliminary treatment and then refer patients to the Mohana hospital as the doctor here is on leave since yesterday.”
Reportedly the hospital was constructed in 1976 with an aim to provide better healthcare facilities in 13 panchayats of Adaba zone in Gajapati and several villages of Kandhamal and Rayagada districts.

But due to absence of doctors at the hospital has left the healthcare services in disastrous condition.
However, comments of the concerned doctor could not be obtained. On the other hand, Gajapati CDMO, Bipin Bihari Panigrahy informed that steps would be taken immediately to sort out the problem.
“The problem arose due to the absence of doctors in the hospital. A nodal officer from Mohana has visited the hospital for an assessment of medical problems and we hope that the issue will be resolved soon,” the CDMO added.
