Puri: The decision of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) to don Lord Patitapabana in Nagarjuna Besha has sparked controversy as Singhari servitors have opposed the move and termed it against the rituals.

Commenting on the development, Ganeswara Singhari, a servitor said, “Lord Patitapabana never dons Nagarjuna Besha. He only dons ‘Hati Besha’ and ‘Padma Besha’. If SJTA sticks to its decision, then we will not perform Lord Jagannath and his siblings’ besha.”

Notably, the holy Trinity will don Nagarjuna Besha on November 27. The Besha of the deities was last held in 1994.

In view of the pandemic, devotees will be barred from darshan this year. Keeping this in mind, the SJTA has decided to perform Nagarjuna Besha of Lord Patitapabana and air it on television providing a virtual darshan of the deities to the devotees.
