Ganjam: There are not many who are fortunate enough to return from dead unlike Simanchal Mallick. An elderly man of Haripur village under Sorada block in Ganjam district, Simanchal who was presumed dead by his family members, woke up soon after lighting of his funeral pyre today.
According to sources, one Simanchal Mallick of the village had gone to graze goats yesterday but he did not return home. After a frantic search, his family members found him unconscious at a farmland. However, instead of taking him to hospital, the family members assumed that he was dead and so decided to carry out his last rites for cremation.
But much to the surprise, following completion of funeral rites when Simanchal’s kin lit the pyre, he suddenly woke up, shocking mourners and all others present at the spot. Soon after the incident, Simanchal was rushed to Sorada Community Health Centre (CHC) where he underwent treatment. His health condition is stated to be stable now.
Asked about the incident, Simanchal said “I was suffering from fever for the last four days. Yesterday after having meal, I went to graze goats. Due to fever, I collapsed on the field and perhaps remained unconscious throughout the night. But when my family members placed me on the funeral pyre and lit it, I regained my sense."
A bewildered Murali Mallick, one of the relatives of Simanchal said, "We noticed some movement in his body when he woke up. Fortunately he was alive."
Medical officer of Sorada CHC, Dilip Nayak said it is not right to take a dead person to cremation ground without necessary medical check up and if such incident happened it's illegal. “When he was brought to the health centre, his health condition was critical. I administered him saline and injection following which he recovered."
