Bhubaneswar: After Hotel Presidency and ISKCON temple, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has now reined in the DAV Public School Unit-8, for dumping construction and demolition waste on public road.

In a show-cause notice issued to the authorities, the civic body accused the school of dumping garbage and plastic that washes down into the drain causing choking.The school has also been discharging dirty water into the drain causing unhygienic and insanitary conditions in the area, the notice read.

Authorities of the school have been asked to cough up fine for such illegal and unauthorized actions failing which the Corporation has threatened to initiate proceedings under the Orissa Public Demands and Recovery Act 1962.

The institution has been asked to submit its explanation within seven days as to why suitable action should not be taken against it under the different provisions of the CMC Act 2003 and Construction and Demolition Waste Management Rules 2016, BMC Users Charges Regulation 2015 and why penalty should not be imposed on it for unauthorized dumping of the materials.The BMC also threatened to cancel the school's occupancy certificate if it did not come up with proper explanation.

Meanwhile, the school authorities are yet to comment on the matter.
