Cuttack: The numbers that seem to stack against the containment, sanitisation and awareness strategy of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), Behera Sahi near Cuttack Malgodown reported 57 new positive cases in last 24 hours.

While 14 cases were brought to notice on August 1, no less than 22 cases were detected on August 2 in Behera Sahi, which was declared containment zone on July 29.

As per the data shared by CMC on Monday, a total of 87 new positive cases were detected in the city in the past 24 hours and the only silver lining that emerged from this arguably sombre data is that most of the cases were contacts of a positive patient reported earlier and were under quarantine.

Apart from the 57 cases in Behera Sahi, eight local contact cases were reported from the city from Kali Gali, Choudhury Bazaar, Samanta Sahi, Chauliaganj, Mahanadi vihar, Telenga Bazaar, Dewan Bazaar and Badambadi.

Similarly, two cases were reported from a paid quarantine facility while one case was detected from institutional quarantine in SCB medical isolation ward.

With this spike, Cuttack city’s active caseload breached the 500 mark and currently stands at 501. The total case tally reached 1,091 while 580 patients have recovered so far. From the total 207 deaths due to Coronavirus in the state, 10 are from Cuttack city.
