Bhubaneswar: On the day-6 of the largest ever vaccination drive against the coronavirus in the country, Odisha posted another record performance on Friday. The State has overshot the target for the second consecutive day today.
With this spirited up show, the State has till date vaccinated a whopping over 1.21lakh corona warriors to finish 3rd in the country after Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
As per the Union Health Ministry data till the six hours in the evening today, the country saw vaccination of over 2.28 lakh beneficiaries.
The vaccination statistics for Odisha looks quite favourable. The State today shared a pie of 7 per cent of total inoculations in the country when the sessions planned in Odisha stood at a mere 2 per cent.
At the end of the vaccination hours today, as per State Health Department data, Odisha saw immunisation of a high of 16,384 individuals against the target of 13,195. The rate of achievement stood at 124 per cent vis-à-vis of 121 per cent on Day-5. The record achievement looks very encouraging as the State had overshot the target only yesterday.
The big takeaway today is the cyclical up and down has been belied in today’s vaccination exercise in the State. For instance, when Odisha saw 102 per cent vaccination rate on Day-2, the proportion dropped to 88 and 89 per cent on Day-3 and day-4, respectively.
As far as AEFI (Adverse Events Following Immunisation) cases are concerned, Odisha today recorded a single case in Bargarh. Health department sources had called the AEFI case a mild one, though Odisha had seen hospitalisation of 4 vaccine recipients till date. And, coincidentally, Bargarh accounts for half of the hospitalisation AEFI cases in the State.

SMART CITY’S SHOW
A day after overshooting the target, the Capital City Bhubaneswar today recorded a vaccination rate of nearly 85 per cent.
On the day-5, the city had scored an impressive rate of 186 per cent. After scoring over 100 per cent rate for two consecutive days, the Capital city again scored a decent performance today. As against the target of 1,340, a total of 1,137 had taken the jab today, informed State Nodal Vaccine Officer Bijay Kumar Mishra.
However, at the end of Day-6, the temple town vaccination scorecard shows 253 behind the target set till the end of day-6. The total recipients at the end of day-5 in the temple town stood at around 7,487.
“As the Covid-19 immunisation target in Bhubaneswar has been kept at 9000 corona warriors, we are pretty sure of achieving the rate by Monday, as Sunday will not see any vaccination drive in the State,” said BMC Commissioner Prem Choudhry.
