Bhubaneswar: In order to create an inclusive environment where every student including the divyangs get equal opportunities in education, the Department of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities on Wednesday issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for online special education of students with disabilities.

In a letter to all collectors, Deputy Secretary, Ambika Prasad Pattanaik stated that the SOP has been issued to provide a clear and concise procedure for the DSSOs, BSSOs, chief functionaries of the schools, principal/headmaster/teachers of the special schools, parents and students with disabilities on the responsibilities of each stakeholder in terms of different activities.

“In order to continue the education of the students of special schools, it has been decided to continue online education of the differently-abled students,” the letter read.

Following is the SOP for all the stakeholders:

1: The Department will develop online study material for different classes for each category of disabilities by professionals on respective discipline and the same will be uploaded in the e-Library of Department website.

2: MIS team of the Department will monitor and coordinate the overall activities of the operation.

3: A Whatsapp group will be created among the chief functionaries/Principals/Headmasters of the special schools in the State and the link of the online videos of the classes will be shared in this group on regular basis by the Department.

4: The chief functionaries/Principals/Headmasters will collect the mobile numbers of the parents/guardians of the students and create separate WhatsApp groups of the staff of their schools along with the parents/Guardians of the students. They will share the link of the videos in this group. The concerned teacher will share/ the video to each and every student/guardian.

5: The teachers along with Principal/Headmasters will be in touch with student/guardian over phone for attending any queries as well as getting feedbacks from them.

6: Each teacher/therapist will submit his/her daily report to the Principal/Headmaster for review and record.

7: The Principal/Headmaster will review the work every week and post the findings for record at DSSO level for monitoring by Collectors and further submit it to the Department for necessary record and guidance.

Pattanaik has directed all the concerned stakeholders to follow the SOP meticulously while imparting online education. The Department through designated portal shall facilitate sharing study materials and other information.
