Bhubaneswar: More than 1,700 coronavirus tests are being conducted in Bhubaneswar over the last three/four days, informed the capital city’s Covid-19 observer Anu Garg.
“Earlier we had said that we are focusing more on testing, and our target was to conduct 1400 tests daily. Over the last three-four days, we are conducting more than 1700 tests in the city. As a result, more new cases are being detected,” Garg said.

“We have kept counsellors at the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation office for psychosocial counselling of people. They have already counselled 400 people. They are available for full day and anyone can contact them by dialling our BMC COVID19 helpline 1929,” Garg added.
The BMC authorities said that the role of citizens and their behavioural change are important to contain COVID19 as various activities are being reopened under Unlock 3.
“Today we held discussions with Bhubaneswar city market and trader associations and they have assured that they will operate by observing all the COVID19 guidelines. At the same time customers should also cooperate and follow guidelines,” she said.
She further said people should avoid crowding and frequent visits to shops and markets.
The capital city today registered 126 new cases of COVID19 taking the total number of cases to 2,861 while the death toll rose to 17 with two more succumbing to the disease in the last 24 hours. Besides, 133 patients were cured of the disease in the last 24 hours in the city.

Giving further details about the Covid-19 situation in the state capital, BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary said, of the total 2,861 cases, 571 are from slums, while 2290 are from non-slum areas.

At present 16 patients are in ICU and three in ventilator support, he said.
