Bhubaneswar: The lethal coronavirus continues to tighten its grip around Odisha with the State recording a single-day spike of 1977 positive cases in the last 24 hours pushing the total tally to 54,630.

Of the fresh cases reported from 30 districts, 1241 cases were detected from quarantine centres while 736 are local contacts.

As per the State Information and Public Relations Department, the active cases now stand at 16,353 while 37,900 patients have recovered so far.

Out of the new 1977 new positives, the maximum 332 cases reported were from Khordha district. Ganjam has added 280 positive cases to its tally, while Mayurbhanj and Bhadrak also reported a surge of 120 and 118 cases each, informed I&PR Department.

The district-wise details of positive patients are as follows:

Meanwhile, 42761 samples were tested on Thursday taking the cumulative test number in State to 807826. As per the Health Department, 6635 RT-PCR tests were conducted, 36002 rapid antigen tests and 124 were TrueNat-based.

In addition to this Odisha also witnessed 10 new deaths due to Coronavirus in the last 24 hours.
