Gajapati: Worried over rising COVID-19 cases, Gajapati district administration on Friday clamped a complete restriction on the movement of people from the district to Ganjam and Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh.

Informing about the development, Gajapati Collector Anupam Saha informed that apart from essential services, no other person will be allowed to move to Ganjam and Srikakulam from the district. However, there will be no restrictions on the operations of essential services including inter-district and inter-State ones.

It is pertinent to mention here that 30 new COVID-19 cases were reported from Gajapati district in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 568 in the district today.

Of the 30 new cases, 15 cases have been detected following active surveillance in containment zones and two from Temporary Medical Camps (TMC).

Saha informed that a few COVID-19 cases have been reported from Mohana town for the first time.
“As it is being observed that many COVID-19 cases are linked to Ganjam and Srikakulam, we have decided to restrict the movement to and from Gajapati district to these parts,” said Saha.

According to Saha, all the non-essential movement will not be allowed from Gajapati to Ganjam and Srikakulam. The professionals from the district, who are travelling to Ganjam district every day, will also be not allowed. However, there will be no restriction on the movement of ambulances and other emergency vehicles.

“Be it work or any social gathering, nobody will be allowed to move out of Gajapati to Ganjam and Srikakulam,” he added.
