Bhubaneswar: With the country arguably in the thick of the COVID19 pandemic, Odisha seems not too far as the State on Friday broke single-day records in both number of cases and recoveries.

As per the Health and Family welfare department, a record 565 persons recovered from COVID-19 in the State. It is for the third consecutive day that the State has been reporting record number of recoveries.

As many as 401 and 303 persons had recuperated from COVID-19 on July 9 and July 8, respectively.

Of the total 565 recoveries reported on Friday, highest 185 recoveries were reported from Ganjam district, followed by 85 from Rayagada, 45 Bolangir, 32 Cuttack, 24 each from Bargarh and Sundergarh and 23 from Angul.

After today’s record breaking recoveries, so far a total of 7,972 patients have been cured of COVID-19 in Odisha.

Earlier, the State registered biggest spike of 755 new Covid-19 cases, taking the State’s total positive tally to 11956 on Friday. Of the total 755 new cases detected in the last 24 hours, 508 cases were reported from quarantine centres while remaining 247 cases are local contacts.

Ganjam reported highest 320 cases, Jajpur (86), Sundargarh (62), Khurda (59), Cuttack (55), Keonjhar (32) and Gajapati (30).

Similarly, 18 cases were reported from Malkangiri, 16 from Nayagarh, 12 each from Mayurbhanj and Bolangir, 11 from Puri, nine from Balasore, five each from Kendrapada, Koraput and Jagatsinghpur, four each from Deogarh and Dhenkanal, three from Angul, two each from Bhadrak, Sambalpur and Kandhamal and one case from Bargarh.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 death toll in Odisha rose to 56 after four more persons succumbed to coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours.  All the four deaths were reported from Ganjam district.

Besides, two more Covid patients died due to other health issues. The death toll other than COVID now rose to 17 in the State.
