Nabarangpur: At a time when anxiety over the pandemic is quite palpable among the masses, a COVID-19 patient reportedly escaped from a dedicated COVID-19 hospital in Nabarangpur district, further triggering concerns.

As per reports, the patient from Umerkote block reportedly escaped from the COVID health care centre by scaling the wall yesterday. The matter came to light after the medical superintendent lodged a formal police complaint in connection with the incident.

Confirming about the development, Nabarangpur Collector, Ajit Kumar Mishra said, “As per the information received from the medical superintendent, who is in-charge of the COVID health centre, the patient has escaped by scaling the hospital wall. An FIR has been filed in this connection.”

According to Mishra, the patient was brought to the hospital on July 3.

As per the complaint, the 50-year-old male patient was present at the hospital at 5:50 AM when his health condition was last checked by the staff yesterday. However, the patient was missing when the hospital staff went to offer him breakfast.

“Already, the relatives of the patient have been informed and asked to report to police and other authorities if they receive any information about the whereabouts of the patient,” Mishra added.
