Bhubaneswar: Odisha is now facing enormous challenge owing to the steep rise in the number of COVID-19 positive cases and fatalities since July 1. The state’s COVID-19 tally reached 13121 on Sunday after 595 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

Apart from the new cases, three more persons succumbed to COVID-19 in Odisha. All the three deaths have been reported from Ganjam district. With this, the COVID-19 death toll in Odisha has reached 64.

As per Health and Family Welfare department, a 56-year-old male, a 50-year-old male and a 65-year-old male COVID-19 patients have died while undergoing treatment.

Two other COVID positives- 50-year-old male from Khurda and a 57-year-old from Bhubaneswar-died due to head injury and actute encephalomyelitis, health department tweeted. The non-COVID death toll in the State now stands at 20.

Of the latest cases, a highest 230 COVID-19 cases have been reported from Ganjam district, followed 97 from Jajpur, 76 from Khurda, 44 from Koraput, 36 from Malkangiri, 20 from Gajapati, 14 from Mayurbhanj and 11 each cases from Cuttack, Balasore and Bhadrak districts.
