Ganjam: The rising COVID-19 graph in Ganjam district is still giving jitters to many and the district administration is trying everything in its arsenal to break the chain of infection. In a latest decision on Monday, Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange announced a seven-day shutdown in Chhatrapur NAC. The shutdown restrictions will come into force from June 30 (tomorrow) and continue till July 6, 2020.

Kulange informed that apart from essential services, all other shops and markets will remain closed during the shutdown period.

A mad rush was seen in several markets in Chhatrapur NAC with people rushing to buy essential commodities in view of the week-long shutdown. Long queues outside shops selling essential commodities were seen in the area.

Apart from Chhatrapur, containment and buffer zones have been declared in Hinjili town following a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in the area. The restrictions will come into effect from midnight today.

It is pertinent to mention here that Ganjam is the worst-hit district in Odisha. The COVID-19 tally in the district reached 1367 today after 96 new cases were detected in the last 24 hours.
