Cuttack: A deputy superintendent of police (DSP)-rank officer on Monday tested positive for COVID-19 apart from five other staff of a police station under Athagarh sub-division.

Earlier yesterday, the inspector-in-charge of the police station in Athagarh under Cuttack Rural Police District had tested positive for COVID-19.

As per sources, the IIC was not well for the last one week and was on leave. He was staying in CDA sector-9 since several days. Later his swab sample was collected and it came out positive for COVID-19.

Swab samples of over 22 persons including all the staffs of the concerned police station have been collected as seven to eight staff had reportedly developed symptoms of fever, cold and cough.

Senior police officials informed that adequate measures have been taken to ensure that law and order and other policing activities remains unaffected in Athagarh. Additional manpower have been mobilised from other parts in this regard.

After the concerned IIC was tested positive for COVID-19, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) declared some areas of CDA sector-9 as containment zones.

The areas that have been declared containment zones are:

CDA South: Main road in front of Plot no D-47 to D-49
CDA West: Road in front of D-1 to D-49
CDA North: Ambatota Road from D-1 to B-34
CDA East: backside of Plot no B-35 to A-46

Vehicular movement has been barred in these areas while all the inhabitants within the containment zones have been directed to stay indoors.
