Coronavirus Spreads To 11 Districts In Odisha, Total Cases Reach 111

Bhubaneswar: Making its way into the southern Odisha, coronavirus has infected a 22-year-old health worker in Koraput district. The State has reported eight positive COVID-19 cases today, of which six are from Balasore, one from Jajpur, and one from Koraput which was untouched by the infection till now.

As per the data shared by State Information and Public Relations Department, the lone case from Koraput is a staff nurse from Dasamantpur block who had returned from Kolkata on April 14 to join duty, however, it was clarified that he hasn’t been able to join duty. He has been in quarantine since then given his travel history to West Bengal and tested positive today.

The positive case from Balasore reported later in the day is a 32-year-old male. He too is a West Bengal returnee, informed I&PR department.

Jajpur, on the other hand, registered one more Coronavirus case today, taking the number of infected persons in the district to 19. The new case is a 34-year-old male from Basudevpur area who has a travel history to Kolkata.

With these three cases, the total number of positive cases in Odisha soared up to 111. Bhubaneswar remains a red zone with 46 numbers of cases and 20 still active. However, no report of any new cases in Khurda district in the last two weeks has been a silver lining in Odisha’s fight against coronavirus. On the contrary, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore districts continue to witness a rise in the numbers of positive cases with each passing day.

Monday morning, five more positive cases had been reported from Balasore’s quarantine zones. The details of those cases as shared by the I&PR department are, a 55-year-old female, a 22 year-old female, a 23-year-old female, a 29-year female and one 27-year-old male.

As of now, the total positive cases in Balasore and Bhadrak stand at 16 each while the coastal district of Jajpur is next after Khurda with 19 cases.

Meanwhile, two more COVID-19 patients from Bhubaneswar have been cured, taking the total number of recoveries to 37 in the State, informed State Health and Family Welfare Department.

The department shared the information through a tweet that read, “Happy to share that two #COVID19 patients of Bhubaneswar have recovered & tested negative for COVID-19.”
