Malkangiri: As many as 29 Border Security Force (BSF) personnel have tested positive for novel-Coronavirus in Malkangiri district.

They are among the 36 new positive cases detected in the district in the last 24 hours, according to information shared by the Malkangiri district administration.

The 29 BSF personnel had returned from Bihar, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh & West Bengal and lodged in Malybanta Boys Hostel, Jr. Science College and Girls Hostel, informed the District Collector.

A total of 35 BSF jawans have been found coronavirus positive in the district so far. Earlier, six personnel of the central armed force had contracted the virus.

According to sources, altogether 1,018 coronavirus cases have been reported among BSF personnel across India. Presently, there are around 354 active cases while 659 personnel have recovered till date.

On the other hand, four other cases in Malkangiri today were detected from the TMC of MV-07.  They are returnees from Tamil Nadu and New Delhi. Similarly, another 3 cases detected from home quarantine of MV-12 of Korukonda block. They are returnees from New Delhi. Active contact tracing is being conducted, the district collector informed.

A total of 96 positive cases have been detected in the district so far. While 52 patients have recovered, the active cases stand at 44.

The administration has requested the residents not to panic and maintain the SOPs of social distancing, hygiene and cough etiquette in order to minimise the spread of Covid infection.
