Puri: At a time when Coronavirus cases are rising relentlessly, the COVID warriors, who are playing crucial roles in fight against the pandemic, are allegedly being deprived of basic facilities and foods at COVID centres. The doctors, nurses and other health workers at various COVID centres in Puri district have alleged that they are being served with substandard food.

It was alleged that substandard food is being served to COVID warriors and patients at Sri Jagannath COVID Care Centre, Gopabandhu Ayurveda COVID Care Centre and IDH COVID Centre.

The frontline workers have filed a written complaint with Puri Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) alleging that they found insects, hair and rubber in food.

“About 30 COVID19 patients are staying here since July 9. The patients along with the health workers are being served with substandard food. Insects, hair, rubber are found in the food. Despite repeated complaints, the issues are yet to be resolved,” said Dr Tapas Ranjan Sahu of Sri Jagannath COVID Centre.

Prabhat Mangaraj, a health worker at Sri Jagannath COVID Centre, brought the similar allegations and said, “The rice and dal served to us are of very poor quality. Despite complaining to the manager, he is not paying any heed. Sanitistion work is also not being carried out here properly.”

“They often add water to the food, if it falls short. Moreover, people working on the field don’t get food upon their return to the COVID Centre as by the time they reach here, the food gets over,” alleged Ipsita Senapati, a nurse at Sri Jagannath COVID Centre.

The concerned authorities could not be contacted over the matter.
