Bhubaneswar: In a bid to ensure safety and security of passengers, the Railway authorities are now contemplating to install CCTV cameras in major trains. Besides, CCTV cameras will also be installed at multiple locations in all the stations across Odisha, informed ADG Railways and Coastal Security, Pranabindu Acharya after a state-level security committee meeting on Railways today.
Several Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials of three railway divisions- South Eastern, Eastern and South Eastern Central Railways and Intelligence SPs attended the state-level security committee meeting which was chaired by Odisha Police DG, RP Sharma.
Government Railway Police (GRP) and RPF officials will shortly conduct an assessment to ascertain the requirement of CCTV cameras so as to cover maximum entry and exit points at railway stations under their respective jurisdictions across the State.
“Various issues including passenger security were discussed at the meeting and it has been decided to install CCTV cameras in all stations in Odisha and in some major trains also,” said Acharya.
Acharya further informed that soon a proposal will be sent to Odisha government to bring new railway lines including Talcher-Sambalpur, Rayagada-Koraput and Khurda-Nayagarh under the jurisdiction of Government Railway Police (GRP).
Senior officials informed that concerns were also expressed over defunct luggage scanners at various railway stations in Odisha including Bhubaneswar. All the defunct baggage scanners will be repaired while new ones will be installed at the earliest, informed sources.
The luggage scanner at Rourkela Railway Station will be made operational within seven days, Acharya added.
Several other important issues including expediting investigation into several pending cases, initiating criminal cases against those indulging in ransacking of railway property and staging rail roko agitations in the State were also discussed.
