Sambalpur: The faculty members of the Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology in Sambalpur continued their protest demanding the ouster of Vice Chancellor Atal Chaudhuri alleging the latter's apathetic attitude towards the development of the varsity.
Even as hundreds of professors, assistant professors and other teaching staff have resorted to the protest since July 17, the classes have been running smoothly as the faculty members are joining the dharna after classes and other works.
The faculty members have drafted an 18-point charter of demands and have alleged that the vice chancellor of neglecting their demands.
As per their allegations, no noticeable developments have been done in the varsity since Atal Chaudhuri, a Jadavpur University professor, was appointed its vice-chancellor in January 2018. They have alleged that students are being asked to pay an annual fee of Rs 8000 for a corpus fund, but still no developments have been done in the staff quarters, toilets and other parts of the varsity.
“Teachers are unhappy over the way the VC is administrating the university and so we have resorted to protest,” said a lecturer, PK Pradhan.
Sasmita Padhi, another protesting faculty member said, “When the VC assumed office, I was the one to first go and apprise him about our basic problems. But over last several months, whoever is going against the administration, he or she is being suspended.”
The faculty members have also leveled allegations that the research papers are not being allowed to be published as the VC is doing all the works as per his whims.
However, Chaudhuri refuted the allegations and clarified that he has done nothing wrong in his tenure so far. He has instead alleged that the faculty members are not calling their protests off to discuss the issues. The VC has also accused the teaching staff of misbehaving with him inside his chamber.
“Be it the issue which concerns linking of increment with publications or others, I feel that all the issues raised by the faculty are baseless,” he said.
