Youth attempts to strangulate girl over unrequited love, arrested

Jajpur: A youth allegedly involved in a one side love affair with a girl in Kianali village of the district was arrested for attempting to kill her here on Wednesday.

The accused, identified as Swagat Nayak of Kujibara village under Kuakhai police limits was in love with the girl and had sent a marriage proposal.

After the girl rejected his proposal, Swagat barged into her house and an argument ensued between the two. In a fit of rage, Swagat allegedly attempted to strangulate the girl till the villagers arrived and rescued her.

She was immediately rushed to Jajpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH)  and later shifted to SCB Medical in Cuttack after her condition worsened.

Police have arrested Swagat and are interrogating him. “A case has been registered against the accused. We have arrested him. Further investigation is on,” said a police official.
