While a normal baby smiles if someone looks at him/her, tries to mingle or creates sounds to get attention, an autism-affected baby does not show that kind of response. Autistic persons also lack non-verbal communication skills, do not gesture or share what they feel about a situation.
Mostly, autistic persons are self-engaged and remain in their own world
They do the same things repeatedly or utter the same words
No drug has been invented by scientists yet to cure autism completely. However, autism associated seizure, fits, anxiety and excitement can be controlled to some extent through medicines.
In medical parlance, autism is called Autism Spectrum Disorder and can be minimized through stimulation and therapeutic intervention
Durga Prasad Mishra, Occupational Therapist, says, "If symptoms are found after 15-17 months of a baby's birth, parents should not wait any longer and must consult a doctor immediately."
Autism is not a psychological disorder
Mishra further states, "Early intervention can bring the condition of autistic babies under control. Though autism cannot be cured completely, treatment at any early stage can help babies suffering from autism do their daily chores as they grow, install reading abilities and communication skills."
It is wrong to term autism as a psychological disorder, Mishra stressed.
