Balasore: In a shocking incident, a woman was allegedly killed by her husband and in-laws for dowry in Tundapada village under Soro block of the district here on Thursday.
As per reports, the deceased, identified as Manini, was being tortured by her in-laws since her marriage to one Laxmidhar Nath.
She was admitted to the SCB medical college and hospital on May 4 after she was brutally beaten up by in-laws and later succumbed to her injuries, sources said. Suspicion grew after the accused family buried Manini's body without even informing her parents or police.
Manini, who was married for almost nine years, was tortured by her in-laws house over money at regular intervals, said her father Kirtan Nath. "They have killed my daughter. She was often tortured for dowry," the aggrieved father said.
Though the victim's husband rubbished the allegations of torture, Soro police have detained him. "The dead body of Manini has been sent for autopsy and further investigation into the case would be done following receipt of the report," said Rosalin Behera, Inspector-In-Charge of Soro police station.
