Villagers stop trucks carrying timber for Puri chariots

Nayagarh: Demanding construction of road and establishment of a hospital, villagers of Kalasakhamana and Nuagaon in the district on Monday halted two trucks carrying timber meant for chariots of deities of the Puri Sri Jagannath temple.

The villagers also wanted setting up of mobile towers in their locality for better telecommunication network.

On receiving information, personnel of the Forest department reached the spot and tried to pacify the agitating villagers. Till the filing of this report, the trucks had not been allowed to leave for its destination.

It is worthwhile to mention that every year timbers are collected from Dasapalla of Nayagarh for construction of chariots of deities of the Puri Jagannath temple.
