Cuttack: In a bid to stop corrupt practices at grassroots level especially in rural housing schemes, the Vigilance Directorate today issued a toll free number to receive complaints and also said public can inform the office via social sites, if any public servant demands bribe from them.

While issuing the toll free no 1064 and setting up Twitter account: twitter.com/odisha.vigilance and Facebook page: facebook.com/odisha.vigilance, the Vigilance directorate stated all blocks and gram panchayats are under its scanner and a special drive has been launched to detect and prevent unlawful practices of government staff in the rural housing schemes. The office also issued an email: spvigcoord@gmail.com asking public to inform about corrupt practices at the block level.

The office also mentioned that the Vigilance department has launched probe into six complaints, 15 secret verifications, 23 file inquiries and registered four criminal cases against public servants for illegally allotting houses to ineligible beneficiaries, misappropriation of funds released by the State government and demand bribes to sanction funds to actual beneficiaries.

The prime focus of the Vigilance directorate is to stop pilferage and leakage of government funds in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana (BPGY) and therefore, it has asked every vigilance unit to take up complaints regarding rural housing schemes on a priority basis, said a media release issued by the vigilance office.
