Tehsildar detained by villagers on failing to nab sand mafia

Balasore: Locals detained the Tehsildar of Jaleswar in Balasore district today for not being able to catch the sand mafia in Makidia of the district.

Sources said the sand mafia had come from West Bengal to steal sand from Makidia. After receiving complaint about the incident, the Tehsildar went to nab the miscreants; however, he failed to do so and returned without any success.

Angry over this, the villagers detained the Tehsildar, three Additional Tehsildars and a police vehicle.

When asked, the Tehsildar said he failed to resist the mafia since he did not have tear gas or gun.
