Puri: Devotees of Lord Jagannath can heave a sigh of relief as the sale of Tanka Torani at Ananda Bazar of the Puri Temple in Odisha will not be banned by the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA).
The Public Relation Officer of the Puri Temple administration has informed about the decision following the SJTA's ban order on the sale of Tanka Torani (mixture of rice water, lemon leaves, green chilli and curd) and Rabidi (a dessert made from milk) announced on Saturday.
The SJTA will keep a vigil eye on the sale of Tanka Torani on the temple premises and strictly monitor its quality.
"We have divided responsibilities since time immemorial. Why is the administration interfering?" questioned president of Suara and Mahasuara Niyog, Damodar Mahasuara.

"Stringent action must be taken against the person involved in sale of low quality or sub-standard Tanka Torani but why should all suffer because of a few," said a servitor in the temple.
"Tanka Torani is associated with the feelings of crores of devotees of Lord Jagannath. It should not be banned rather appropriate step should be taken to maintain the quality of Tanka Torani and must be tested before being put for sale," said another servitor.
