Bhubaneswar: In a bid to usher in reforms in Plus-II education in the state to align it with the CBSE format, the Odisha government has decided to do away with the first year examination and conduct a board exam instead.
Based on the recommendations of the fact finding team set up to suggest reforms in higher education and examinations, the State government has taken a decision to go for a board examination which will be conducted by Council of Higher Secondary Examination of Odisha from this year onwards.
Moreover, the syllabus and the pattern of study will also change keeping in mind the requirements of engineering and medical streams. The syllabus and examinations will lay more emphasis on objective questions rather than subjective ones.
“The recommendations of the fact finding team on Plus Two reforms included alignment of our teaching process with the CBSE pattern to bring it in line with national standards. The government has accepted those reforms and will implement the same from this year,” said Higher Education minister Pradeep Panigrahi.
In another big change, the State government has also decided to separate the Plus-II stream from the Higher education department and bring it under the School and Mass Education department.
