The cabinet also approved another proposal to enhance the retirement age of doctors from 60 years to 62 years. State Health and Family Welfare minister Atanu S Nayak had made an announcement in this regard in the Assembly on June 23.

The state government had earlier raised the retirement age of doctors in three government-run medical colleges in the state to 65 years.

The Odisha government's action to raise the retirement age came a day after the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh government made a similar announcement.

The Central government had already raised the retirement age to 60 years way back in in 1998.
