Nuapada: In what could be a noble and exemplary New Year resolution, a team of 20 physically challenged persons of Konabira in Nuapada district undertook cleanliness today to set an example and create awareness on sanitation.
While some were wheel-chair bound others were visually and hearing impaired; but all with a firm determination to make their village litter-free.
"Many people laugh at us thinking physically challenged people can do nothing. But, we are cleaning the villages in a bid to show them how abled we are," Gunjari Majhi, a divyang said.
With placards in hands, the divyangs also took out a rally to make people aware about the advantages of using toilets.
"We are not only cleaning the villages but also creating awareness among the people to use toilets to make their own area open-defecation free,” said Jugeswar Bag, another physically challenged man.
The dibyangs further vowed to reach out to people in other districts though their campaign. "We have taken a pledge to take government's Swachh Bharat Mission to every block and district of the State. We will clean the dirty roads, government institutions, schools and colleges, Anganwadis and drains," said Jana Sangharsa Akhyama Samiti president of Konabira, Kapil Deba Rout.
