Niali: The elusive ‘mysterious animal’ continues to give sleepless nights to villagers and forest department officials here with two more sheep reportedly killed on Sunday night at Olansa village.

On the other hand, no wild animal was caught in the trap laid by Forest Department last night. Awareness drive has been undertaken by forest officials to make people aware about rumours. Posters have been put up in villages and leaflets have been distributed in this regard.

People have been asked to inform the forest department if any suspicious animal is traced. A toll free number has also been launched to help the panic-stricken villagers.

Forest and Environment Minister Bijayshree Routray said “A special team from Similipal will arrive in Niali very soon to catch the killer animal. Death of 100 sheep has been reported from the area. There is no government guideline to provide assistance for death of lamb. The matter has been taken to the notice of chief minister.”
