Cuttack: Police today arrested a man for allegedly misleading the cops by registering a fake complaint for being looted of Rs 27 lakh on March 31 last month.
Briefing the media in a press conference today, Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh informed that the complainant himself had masterminded the fake loot.
The prime accused Nalinikant Tripathy along with his two accomplices had executed the crime.
"While Tripathy had engineered the plan, his brother and friend Silu helped him execute it. All three have been arrested," informed DCP.
Police cracked the case after the investigating officers noticed an injury on the complainant's hand. Following interrogation, Tripathy admitted to have committed the crime.
"Out of Rs 27 lakh that was reported 'missing', Rs 26, 48,000 has been recovered from the accused. The trio admitted to have spent the remaining Rs 52,000. The bike and weapons used in the crime has also been recovered," the DCP said.
On March 31, Tripathy who works as an employee of a private company had filed an FIR at Jagatpur police station alleging that two bike-borne miscreants attacked him with a knife and decamped with the cash while he was returning from Allahabad Bank in Cuttack.
