Malkangiri: Demanding a probe into Maoist commander Chinnabai’s death, naxal leader Punam Chand today alleged the Malkangiri police tortured the red rebel in their custody for five days following his surrender and then killing him in the Kapatuti forest on June 3.

In a four-page letter to media, Chand, the CPI(Maoist) Malkangiri Division Secretary, stated Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mahapatra along with former Maoist leader Sukadeba inflicted torture on Chinnabai alias Nagesh Rao after he laid down arms.

The letter further mentioned Chinnabai was murdered by the district police in the forest on Ganjeimala hills and the encounter claim made by the cops is false.

Reacting to the letter, the Malkangiri SP said Chand’s claim is a regular affair and there is nothing new in it.

Meanwhile, Maoist couple of the Baipariguda Dalam, Surya and Malati, with reward of Rs 9 lakh on their heads, surrendered before the Malkangiri SP at the district police headquarters today.
