Bhubaneswar: At least 5 persons were killed in lightning strikes at various places across Odisha on Wednesday.
In Malkangiri district, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning killed two persons, one in MVI-41 village under Kalimela block and the other at Bhejaguda under Mathili block.
Two persons were killed in lighting in Dhenkanal district. A cattle grazer who was accompanying his goats to the field was struck by lightning at Maruabali under Kankadahad police limits. In Majhipal village under Bhuban block, a woman was killed while her granddaughter narrowly escaped but received grievous injuries during lightning. She was later admitted to hospital.
Similarly, one death was reported from Narayanpatna area in Koraput.
On the other hand despite sporadic incidents of thunderstorm showers, the heat wave like conditions continue to prevail and throw normal life out of gear in most parts of the State.
IMD’s regional office informed that while the humidity has been high in coastal regions, internal and western parts of the state are reeling under intense heat wave conditions.
Bolangir recorded 44 Degree Celsius, the highest in the State on Wednesday along with Bhubaneswar, while mercury crossed 43 Degree Celsius mark in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Titlagarh and Talcher.
