Bhubaneswar: Making mincemeat of Bhubaneswar's claim of being Smart City No 1 in the country, a 20-30 minute spell of rain this afternoon left the Capital Hospital,the premier government hospital located in the heart of the city, grappling with knee-deep water inside its premises.
People were seen wading through knee-deep water to enter the wards. The worst affected was the labour ward, which has patients sprawled on the verandah at the best of times due to the limited number of beds. But with rain water gushing through the verandah, patients had to be evacuated and shoved into the already overcrowded wards in a hurry.
Even the kitchen and electric supply room of the hospital were waterlogged after the pre-monsoon showers.
“We have to wade through knee-deep water in the hospital. With water all over the place, people are slipping and getting injured. Is this a hospital in a Smart City?” wondered the relative of a patient.
When contacted, hospital authorities passed the buck to PHD no-1 for the poor water drainage system in the hospital premises. :"Though the district administration has been informed about it and requested to find a solution, nothing has been done yet," said a doctor on duty.
"This being the situation after a mere 30-minute shower, one shudders to think of what the scene would be like in the upcoming rainy season," said the attendant of a patient.
