Cuttack: Conjoined twins of Kandhamal district arrived at the SCB Medical College and Hospital for medical examination so that both the babies joined at the head could be separated.
After OTV telecast on the plight of the twins, the Health department swung into action and brought the babies and parents to Phiringia CHC yesterday.
“The CDMO had ordered to shift them to Cuttack from where they will be taken to AIIMS, Delhi," doctor Sarat Tiwari of Phirngia Health Centre said on Tuesday.
On the other hand, the relatives and residents of Melupada under Phiringia block performed special worship at their home praying for their good health and successful treatment.
The twins Honey and Singh were born conjoined at the head on April 9, 2015, to Bhuan Kanhar and Pushpanjali Kanhar at the local health centre.
Initially, the parents had admitted the babies to the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. Later, they were advised to consult doctors at AIIMS, New Delhi. However, they could not continue with the treatment due to financial constraint.
After OTV telecast a report on the family’s plight, State Health department came forward to extend help for the treatment and operation of the twins.
Health Minister Pratap Jena had assured through a tweet that the babies will be treated at AIIMS, New Delhi and medical expenses will be borne by the district administration.
