Bhubaneswar: Farmers are now keeping an anxious eye on the skies as a well marked low pressure is predicted to trigger heavy rain in several parts of Odisha from tomorrow.
Worried over the fate of paddy crops, farmers in several parts of Odisha are now forced to harvest prematurely. The Agriculture department has also initiated a drive to create awareness through public address systems in Khurda’s Banapur and Bolgarh asking farmers to take adequate measures to protect crops by shifting it to safer places.
However, the rain forecast has left the farmers of Rayagada district in lurch as they are not able to cut the crops because they are not harvest-ready.
As per the latest bulletin of the Indian Meteorological Department, the well marked low pressure over South Bay of Bengal and the associated cyclonic circulation will trigger rain and thunderstorm in several parts of South, North and Coastal Odisha in the next 24 hours.
Heavy rainfall forecast has also been issued for Coastal Odisha and adjoining Gajapati, Rayagada, Kandhamal and Nayagarh districts. The fishermen have also been warned not to venture into the sea.
Strong and gusty winds reaching speeds of 45 to 55 kmph will also sweep through parts of Odisha in the next 24 hours.
