Bhubaneswar: Temperature in most parts of Odisha which had come down appreciably due to widespread rain and thundershower a day before yesterday, rose sharply today with 15 places recording 40 degree Celsius and above.
As informed by Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu, Director, Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, to the media today, severe heat wave condition would prevail in most parts of interior and coastal Odisha in the next 24 hours till tomorrow.
He further said there is a possibility of rainfall in some parts of interior and coastal districts in the three days from April 3 to 5 under the influence of a trough line. Besides, in some parts of the coastal districts, there is a possibility of Kalabaisakhi (Norwester) during the period.
As per a Met release this evening, Bhawanipatna was the hottest place in the state with 44.5 degrees while temperature went up to 40 degrees and above in 13 places in Balasore (43), Chandbali (42.7), Cuttack (42), Bhubaneswar (44), Angul (42.1), Jharsuguda (43), Keonjhar (41.1), Sambalpur (41.9), Sundergarh (40) Hirakud (42.1), Talcher (43.7), Phulbani (41), Titlagarh (44) and Dhenkanal (43.2).
Though weather changed in the capital city in the afternoon session with light rainfall, temperature went up to 44 degrees by 2 PM.
Meanwhile, reports on death of 135 persons due sun-stroke have been received from different sources in the state of which investigation into 61 cases have been completed from which 13 cases has been confirmed to be due to sunstroke. The remaining 74 cases are under enquiry, a release by the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) said.
