The injured were immediately rushed to Sonepur Headquarters Hospital where they are undergoing treatment.

The incident occurred at around 2pm last night when five armed miscreants barged into the house of one Gunakar Nayak of the village in an attempt to loot. When Gunakar, along with his family that included his wife, son, daughter-in-law and grandson, resisted, they were attacked with sharp weapons and injured critically.

“Five armed persons barged into our house at around 2pm. They possessed country pistols and other sharp weapons. When we protested their loot attempt, all of us got injured in the scuffle. Later the miscreants managed to flee the spot after looting valuables from our home,” said Gunakar’s son Ranjit Nayak.

Meanwhile, Birmaharajpur police and local SDPO have initiated a joint investigation into the incident and launched a manhunt to nab the attackers. Sonepur SP Prafulla Patra also reached the spot to launch a probe.
