Bhubaneswar: Congress denied eggs were hurled by its youth wing members at the chief minister’s convoy, while accepting its involvement in a protest by showing black flags at the CM who was on his way to Utkal University to attend an event here yesterday.
Speaking during a programme on Odisha Television (OTV) yesterday, Congress leader Prakash Behera said none of the party’s members pelted eggs at CM’s cavalcade.
“If eggs were thrown to the carcade, personally me and Congress will not support it,” added Behera.
Meanwhile, BJD spokesperson Pratap Deb in the same channel programme said the protest was pre-planned by the youth and student wings of Congress.
“After a failure in the recently concluded polls of Utkal University, the distressed youth wing of the party committed such act,” Deb added.
Notably, activists of Odisha Youth Congress yesterday afternoon threw eggs and showed black flags at the CM’s cavalcade.
In 2013, a similar kind of security breach happened when activists of Navnirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS), an organization fighting for the cause of farmers, blocked CM’s cavalcade near AG square alleging the State government was apathetic towards farmers’ issues.
