Bhubaneswar: The doyen of Odissi dance, legendary Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra is being paid tributes at the two-day 'Antardrishti' music and dance festival at Rabindra Mandap. Remembering the Guru on his 92nd birth anniversary, Srjan and Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Odissi Research centre is organising this festival.
Eminent Odissi dancer Sujata Mohapatra's performance 'Sabari' was the show stopper on the inaugural evening of this function while Rahul Acharya also enthralled the gathering with his solo Odissi performance 'Suryastaka'. Violin player Sarada Prasanna Das played 'Raga Madhubanti' and was assisted by Tabla player Rupak Bhattacharjee. Dancers from Srjan performed at the end of the opening day and captivated the audience with two compositions 'Synthesis' and 'Ardhanariswar'.
"This festival has been organised to showcase established as well as upcoming talents. If you combine music, rhythm and dance it becomes Sangeet. So this is an overall music and dance event. This event will help newcomers to understand how the Odissi dance choreographed by Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra should be performed with perfection," said Sangita Gosain, Chief Executive, GKCM ORC.
Eminent Odissi dancer Kumkum Kohanty and notable musicians Guru Gopalchandra Das and Guru Banamali Maharana inaugurated the event on Monday evening. All the performers were felicitated by dignitaries present at the venue during the event. Four music and dance performances are planned for the second and final day to attract more people towards Odisha's culture and Odissi tradition.
