Bhubaneswar: A special court in Bhubaneswar awarded 10 years imprisonment under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, to accused Gajendra Buxi for raping a minor girl in 2016.

Buxi had raped a minor girl in the Chandaka area in Bhubaneswar and was subsequently arrested by police in 2016.

In another incident, a special POCSO Court in Nabrangpur awarded 10 years of rigorous imprisonment to the accused in connection with a minor girl rape case in 2015.

"The court after considering the evidence and based on the statements of 16 witnesses awarded 10 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 to the accused," said government counsel, Sachitrananda Behera.

Earlier, a court in Balasore in January this year had sentenced a 34-year-old man to undergo 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl in 2015.
