Cuttack: The death of Prafulla Biswal, the suspected main accused in the sensational Mahanga double murder case has triggered a fresh controversy with the BJP terming it a well-panned murder.
The body of Prafulla was found near Nua Bandal Chhak in Tangi area of Cuttack last night. Tangi police who recovered the body claimed that Prafulla died in an accident.
“The accident occurred near Nua Bandal Chhak between 9.30 pm and 10 pm last night. We recovered the body and shifted it to SCB Medical College and Hospital in an ambulance. The deceased’s motorcycle, bag containing a helmet, clothes and insurance papers of the bike were also recovered from the spot,” Tangi IIC, Padarbinda Tripathy said.
“We got a phone number written on a piece of paper in his pocket. When we dialled the number, Prafulla’s wife picked up the call. Later, his family members reached SCB hospital and recognised the body,” the IIC added.
However, the BJP refused to buy the police version and claimed that Prafulla was murdered apprehending that he would reveal the involvement of ruling BJD in the murder of former Mahanga block chairman and BJP leader Kulamani Baral along with his associate Dibyasingha Baral.
“We have been saying since the beginning that Mahanga double murder case is a political conspiracy which is evident from the death of the accused. His body was found near Dushasan Jena transport office owned by the local MLA who belongs to the ruling party. The office belongs to Mahanga MLA who was named in the FIR filed in the case,” said BJP district president of Cuttack Prakash Behera.
Behera also questioned as to why all other accused involved in the case were nabbed, but the police had failed to arrest the main accused.
“The prime conspirator was kept undercover by the ruling party. We suspect that once apprehended, he would disclose information against the ruling party, so he was eliminated in a well-planned murder,” Behera alleged.
Congress leader Debendra Sahu also raised similar allegations and said that the local MLA who is a minister in the State Cabinet has direct link in the death of Prafulla Biswal.
"The minister was using Biswal for quite some time to eliminate Kulamani Baral and after achieving the target, he also made Biswal suffer the same fate so that he would not reveal the secret," said Sahu.
On the other hand, the concerned MLA has not commented anything in connection with the allegations.
It is worthwhile to mention here that, Prafulla was absconding since the brutal killings of Kulamani and his associate Dibyasingha Baral on January 2 this year.
