Bhubaneswar: Throwing open challenge to Commissionerate Police, miscreants looted a gold chain after attacking an elderly woman inside her house at IRC village on Monday. This is the second time in the past 24 hours that miscreants have executed such robberies with women mostly being the victims. Earlier yesterday, robbers had looted a gold chain, a pair of earrings and bangles from Tanuja Mohanty, who works as a DSP in Vigilance department.

In today’s incident, the criminals allegedly barged into the house of the woman located at IRC village and looted gold ornaments by attacking her with a sharp weapon. The victim woman, identified as Tulasi Dei has suffered multiple injuries, said sources.

The incident occurred at around 10 AM when the woman’s husband had left home for the market. The family members suspect that miscreants were closely monitoring their movement and attacked when nobody was at home.

“My wife is in a state of shock and we are yet to get information regarding how many miscreants were involved in the attack. My wife has sustained several injuries and it appears that she was attacked with a sharp weapon,” said the woman’s husband.

Local residents alleged that the miscreants are now targeting senior citizens by taking advantage of poor police patrolling during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Commenting on the twin robberies, Bhubaneswar DCP, Umashankar Dash informed that already three teams including a special squad are working on the cases.

“We also appeal people to dial 100 if they have some information about the miscreants involved in both the loot incidents,” said Dash.

In another development, Commissionerate Police today arrested three miscreants involved in the loot of a gold chain and other valuables from an elderly couple under Balianta Police limits on June 25.

The accused have been identified as Biswajit Swain, Silu Samal and Sibashish Das, who hail from Jagatsinghpur district. All the stolen articles have been recovered and a gun has been seized from the accused, police said.
