Bhubaneswar: A day after Captain Ashutosh Kumar laid down his life, fighting terrorists near the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Machil Sector, rich tributes were paid to the brave martyr by Bhubaneswar Sainik School, his alma mater, on Monday.

The wreath-laying ceremony was conducted at the Amar Jawan Memorial on the school premises with the presence of school principal, registrar and other officials.

Captain Kumar, a native of Parmanpur village in Bihar’s Madhepura district had joined Sainik School Bhubaneswar in 2007 and passed out in 2014 securing 92% marks in Class XII and adjudged as the topper of his batch.

As per his friends, he could have easily cracked NEET or JEE, but his patriotism and love for the motherland made him join National Defence Academy in the very first attempt. From there on, he got into Indian Military Academy and joined 18 Madras Regiment after passing out.

As per reports, Kumar was the House-Vice Captain of the Gallants in Class XI and in Class XII and was promoted to the rank of School Cadet Captain.

Group Captain, S Dominic Ryan, the Principal of Sainik School said, “Though I am sad that we lost a son, I am proud at the same time realising that he made the supreme sacrifice for the nation.”

He laid down his life fighting the terrorists in Machil Sector of LoC.
