Bhadrak: The waste management project at Bhairavpur village under Basudevpur Municipality in the district has failed to serve the purpose, alleged locals.

As per reports, the construction work of the said Rs 20 lakh worth project began in 2009 and completed in 2010. It was meant to help people get rid of roadside dumping of garbage.

Locals alleged that the municipality is dumping the waste outside the dumping yard beside the road despite having a lot of open spaces in the yard.

The much-awaited Basudevpur waste management project and dumping yard was built with an aim to shift the tons of waste out from the municipal area and manage it in a hygienic way. But the reality of the project seems to be far away from its intended goal, alleged a local.

“I have to endure this foul smell every day. The municipality guys are throwing the garbage outside of the dumping yard making the atmosphere inhospitable,” alleged one Ramakrushna Samal.

“The municipality is throwing garbage irresponsibly that is polluting our environment in a big way, particularly during this pandemic,” rued one Subash Chandra Mohanty.

While responding to the allegations, the Junior Engineer of Basudevpur Municipality assured to clear out waste from the roadside at the earliest.
