Bhadrak murder: Deceased woman's daughter 'was raped'

Bhadrak: In a fresh twist to the Bhadrak murder case, the minor daughter of the deceased woman has alleged that she was raped by the accused, informed Bhadrak SP, B Gangadhar.

“Rape allegations have been made by the girl in a written complaint filed at the police station. The medical examination of the girl has been conducted and details will be known only after the reports are out,” said the senior police official.

Earlier this morning, body of Bhaktilata Beuria was found near the kitchen of her house in Talachitha village in Dhamnagar of the district.  According to sources, the woman was allegedly killed by one Babua Mohanty with a stone pestle. Surprisingly, the woman's husband is also missing since the incident and police are yet to trace his whereabouts.

Investigations by the police have revealed that Babua , who belonged to the same village was disowned by his family. For the past 10 years, he has been adopted as a foster son by the couple.

"Although Babua used to work at a Bhubaneswar-based firm, he used to frequently visit their house, have meals and even stay there. He had returned to the village on Sunday,” informed Gangadhar.

All aspects are being probed, said a police official.

Initial reports said that Babua suddenly barged into the woman’s house and attacked her with a stone. When the daughter of the woman rushed in to interfere, he threatened to kill her as well and tied her up. Hearing the screams, a few neighbours knocked the door and broke it open to find the woman lying in a pool of blood. However, the accused had escaped through a door in the backyard.

Giving out the details, Lijarani, the daughter of the deceased had revealed that Babua attacked her mother and also threatened to kill her. “He tied me up and took valuables from the almirah. When our acquaintances knocked at the door, he fled,” she had said.

However the girl had not mentioned anything about rape until a written complaint was filed at the police station in which   allegations of rape surfaced. According to police sources, Babua and the woman’s husband were seen together on a bike last night.
