Berhampur: A couple from Bhubaneswar was arrested on Monday on the charges of killing a girl, who worked as a domestic help at their residence in the capital city, and disposing her body in Ganjam district.

Briefing the media at a presser, Ganjam SP Brijesh Ray said that the cops have successfully cracked the case by arresting two persons for their involvement in the murder of the girl who hailed from Balasore.

The accused have been identified as Manas Paikaray and his wife Sarojini.

Earlier, the body of the domestic help was recovered from Bhusundapal area under Jagannath Prasad Police limits on December 2, 2020.

Despite several attempts, the identity of the deceased girl could not be ascertained for a long period. However, recently the cops got a phone number and learnt that the girl was working in Bhubaneswar.

“We had formed special teams and lot of effort went into to ascertain the identity of the deceased girl. Later, we got some leads and contacted the father of the deceased who identified the body,” said Ray.

Ray further said the girl died after she was thrashed by her employer in Bhubaneswar. The girl was brutally beaten up for not doing household chores properly.

“After the death of the girl, the couple hired an Ola cab and disposed the body in Ganjam district to avoid suspicion,” Ray added.
