Bhubaneswar: The ailing elephant calf undergoing treatment at Odisha University of Agriculture & Technology (OUAT) in Bhubaneswar for the last three days died today.

The preliminary reports of the post-mortem revealed that the animal was infected with Herpes virus, informed Head of Pathology Department, Dr Sushen Kumar Panda.

The calf was rescued from Hindol forest sub-division in Dhenkanal district on November 24 and brought to OUAT for treatment.

The animal was reportedly separated from its herd after it fell sick and was unable to breathe properly along with high fever.
