Bhubaneswar: A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the mysterious death of motivational speaker and social activist Aditya Dash, his family said on Saturday.

The petition was filed with the apex court on March 4, Aditya’s family members said while addressing a presser today.

“We had to move the Orissa High Court as we did not have faith in the Crime Branch investigation. This apart, it seemed that the HC was also buying time by scheduling one date after another for hearing into the case. Therefore we filed the petition in Supreme Court demanding a CBI probe,” said Aditya’s parents.

“Eight months have passed since the death of our son, but we have not got nothing but dates after dates by the High Court. We do not have more patience,” said the bereaved parents.

They condemned the shoddy probe into the case by the Government Railway Police as well the State Crime Branch. “On this day, eight months ago, my son had died. The GRP messed up with the probe. We were happy when Crime Branch took over the probe hoping that they would bring out the truth. But their shoddy approach has forced us to move the HC,” they added.

Earlier on August 28, 2020, Bidyashree, wife of Aditya had moved the Orissa High Court seeking the CBI investigation into the case.

A little less than four months after filing the petition, the Bidyashree had tried to commit suicide by consuming sleeping pills while going live on Facebook. She alleged that she was depressed after being branded as the murderer of her husband.

Notably, Aditya’s body was found along the railway tracks near Lingaraj Railway Station in Bhubaneswar on July 7. Director General of Odisha Police had handed over the case to the Crime Branch on July 30.
